In August 2012 we were lucky enough to host a rare performance by folk-rock quartet Plainsong.Plainsong had recently announced their ‘40th Anniversary Farewell Tour’, which commemorates the group’s formation and legendary 1972 Elektra album In Search Of Amelia Earhart.
Ex-Fairport Convention member Iain Matthews (who, with his band Matthews’ Southern Comfort, had already celebrated a worldwide hit with ‘Woodstock’), started the original Plainsong with Andy Roberts. Twenty years later the two re-formed the band with new members Mark Griffiths and Julian Dawson, and Plainsong Mark 2 subsequently released five critically acclaimed CDs and toured all over Europe.
Now the four are celebrating the anniversary with a last CD, Fat Lady Singing and dates in the UK, Holland, Denmark, and Germany in August and September. Two final October shows in Japan bring to an end a band that offered its loyal fans state-of-the-art harmony singing and never less than fascinating song material.
