Born in 1936, son of the well-known British artist Edward Bawden, Richard Bawden is a painter, printmaker and designer with a strong graphic quality to his work. Having studied at the Royal College of Art, he has since been commissioned in fields as varied as book illustration, building murals, etched glass church windows, a poster for London Transport, mosaics, and furniture.
Predominantly working in linocuts, etchings and watercolours, his pictures are very often domestic, portraying gardens, house interiors, furniture, window scenes and local wildlife. Bawden has exhibited in over 50 one-man-shows, with a major retrospective in Suffolk in the iconic setting of Gainsborough’s House. His work is held in collections Royal, public and private, including the Tate, the Ashmolean, and the Victoria and Albert Museum.
